About the role

• Claims Consultant managing large and complex commercial property claims in Canada and internationally. Engaging with stakeholders to provide excellent service and settle claims effectively.

Responsibilities

• Manage, investigate, analyze, negotiate and resolve large and complex commercial property claims generally with exposures over $1M or involving specialized kind of loss within Canada and internationally
• Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability and assess damages
• Mentor, guide and provide technical advice to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long term succession planning
• Train colleagues on complex claims handling
• Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned
• Provide brilliant customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues
• Deliver and exceed on all key performance indicators as it relates to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control and expense management
• Leverage your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support a model of best practice operations
• Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate
• Attend settlement conferences and trials
• Attend loss locations and other client and broker meetings, when appropriate

Requirements

• 10+ years experience with direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims
• Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position
• Undergraduate Degree or CIP designation (asset)
• Functional Bilingualism (French / English) – Need to interact on a regular basis with a French-speaking and English-speaking clientele and colleagues across the country
• Flexible to travel as needed
