About the role

  • Investigate incidents, evaluate liability, and scrutinize property damages to pursue collection of damages to PSE facility
  • Travel throughout service territory to attend small claims court hearings on behalf of company
  • Represent company in Small Claims hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations with damagers
  • Travel for emergency incident responses, meet with stakeholders, and conduct onsite investigations as needed
  • Provide litigation support to attorneys
  • Enter required damage-claim billing information or notes into cross-functional systems
  • Perform thorough investigation of incidents involving property damages to PSE facilities
  • Maintain excellent time management and organization to adhere to deadlines
  • Uphold safety compliance standards and promote a culture of total safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 4-5 plus years experience in utility operations or claims adjusting
  • Familiarity with civil justice system
  • Knowledge of insurance (specifically casualty claims adjusting)
  • High level of interpersonal skills (verbal and written), including technical writing
  • Ability to effectively interact with senior management and Union leadership
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-stress conditions and ability to resolve conflict
  • Must be highly motivated, disciplined, and a self-starter
  • Knowledge of tort and civil law
  • Working knowledge of company’s operating tariffs, Washington State statutes and administrative regulations
  • Must be willing to be on call for emergencies on a 24-hour basis
  • Desired: BA/BS
  • Desired: Working experience in Collections/Subrogation and/or Small Claims Court
  • Desired: AIC, ARM, or CPCU designation and/or adjuster’s license
  • Desired: Construction knowledge including interpretation of restoration estimates
  • Desired: Municipality relations including interpretation service agreements
  • Desired: Utility knowledge including gas and electric
  • Desired: Understanding of the Dig Law
  • Desired: Knowledge of PSE’s tariffs
  • Desired: Proficient in SAP
