About the role

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
  • Handle specialized accounting for insurance premiums, claims reserves, and policy-related transactions
  • Manage commission calculations and payments to insurance partners and agents
  • Ensure compliance with insurance regulatory requirements and reporting obligations
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff members, providing guidance and professional development opportunities
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses prepared by team members
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Sales, and Operations
  • Prepare variance analyses and provide insights on financial performance trends
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within the accounting function
  • Partner with external auditors during annual audits and reviews
  • Maintain and optimize accounting software and financial systems
  • Implement new technologies to streamline accounting processes
  • Ensure accurate integration between property management systems and accounting platforms

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA certification preferred
  • 3-7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in insurance, fintech, or property technology industries strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Experience with insurance accounting and regulatory compliance a plus
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Experience with startup or high-growth environments
  • Knowledge of property management operations and renter's insurance products beneficial
  • Local to the Los Angeles area preferred
