Underwriting Manager leading a team of underwriters at AmeriHome Mortgage, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and training new staff. Overseeing quality goals and managing day-to-day operations for the underwriting team.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the leadership and management of a team of underwriters to achieve the Company’s production and quality goals
Manage underwriters to ensure mortgage loans are underwritten per AmeriHome and Investor underwriting guidelines
Ensure team members are fully trained and current on company’s philosophy and policies/procedures
Manage and review day-to-day tasks escalated by the underwriting team, Operation Account Representative managers, clients and exceptions team
Coordinate with Senior Underwriting Manager to review and respond to QA, QC or secondary post-closing/post purchase requests
Responsible for the training, coaching and supervision for all underwriters within the associated interpretation and application of all company overlays and agency requirements
Track and monitor underwriting metrics including productivity, quality, turn-times, customer service communication and all required service level agreements
Evaluate the structure of the Underwriting team and plan for continuous improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
Provide a consistent approach to new hire training of underwriters and peer managers
Responsible for interviewing, hiring and onboarding of new hires
Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with other departments
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
5+ years underwriting experience and 7+ in the mortgage industry
Working knowledge of Non-Delegated, Retail and/or Correspondent processes
Experience with FNMA/FHLMC and jumbo products
Experience in product and credit risk management analysis
3+ years of previous management experience required
Project management experience
College degree preferred but not required
Current advanced knowledge of industry-specific underwriting guidelines and agency requirements
Proficiency with automated underwriting systems such as Desktop Underwriter and Loan Product Advisor
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to provide outstanding customer service in fast-paced environments
Proficient working knowledge of computerized applications such as word processing, excel spreadsheets, database, presentation software, email and specialized business applications software
Presentation skills necessary to effectively communicate, update, persuade and/or facilitate discussions with all levels of management as well as external clients
Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments and investor agencies as required
