About the role

  • Payroll Specialist managing end-to-end monthly India payroll for various legal entities. Ensuring compliance and accuracy in payroll operations while collaborating with internal and external teams.

Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end monthly India payroll for assigned legal entities, including regular payroll, bonuses, off-cycle payments, leave encashments, arrears, recoveries, and final settlements.
  • Validate payroll inputs such as new hires, exits, salary changes, reimbursements, and variable pay.
  • Perform payroll reviews including variance analysis, exception handling, and pre-payroll validations prior to sign-off.
  • Ensure payroll is processed within defined cut-off timelines and approval controls.
  • Ensure compliance with Indian statutory requirements, including Income Tax (TDS on salary, projections, Form 16, Form 12BA), Provident Fund (EPFO – UAN, ECR, exits, contributions), ESIC, Professional Tax, and Labour Welfare Fund (LWF).
  • Support annual tax activities such as investment declaration windows, proof verification, tax true-ups, and year-end reconciliations.
  • Assist in responding to statutory notices and audits from authorities (e.g., Income Tax Department, PF authorities).
  • Partner with Finance on payroll GL validation, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Prepare and submit monthly payroll reports, statutory summaries, and defect/pre-defect reporting as per Global Payroll SOPs.
  • Act as a primary contact for India payroll-related employee queries via ServiceNow or ticketing tools.
  • Coordinate with HR Business Partners, People Services, and Mobility teams on payroll-impacting changes.
  • Liaise with external payroll vendors to resolve discrepancies and ensure SLA adherence.
  • Maintain accurate payroll data in Workday and payroll vendor systems.
  • Ensure data confidentiality and compliance with S&P Global data protection standards.
  • Identify payroll risks, defects, and recurring issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and standardization efforts within India payroll operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on India payroll experience, preferably in a large organization or shared services / GCC environment.
  • Knowledge on new-aged technologies like Power BI / AI and agility and automation driving solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of Indian payroll statutory laws and compliance.
  • Experience managing payroll for medium to large employee populations.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting.
