About the role

  • Manager of Systems Design overseeing solar system designers for DIY solar customers. Leading system design efforts and sales growth through coaching and collaborative strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of solar system designers focused on direct-to-consumer DIY sales.
  • Set clear performance targets, KPIs, and accountability structures.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the design team.
  • Collaborate with sales leadership to implement strategies that drive system sales growth.
  • Monitor sales metrics and pipeline activity and optimize the team’s performance accordingly.
  • Provide coaching to improve customer engagement and close rates.
  • Review and approve system designs for residential and small commercial solar projects.
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable electrical codes, utility requirements, and product standards.
  • Stay current on evolving solar technology, battery systems, and integration methods.
  • Maintain a customer-first approach, ensuring all system design interactions are informative, technically sound, and sales-oriented.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues and technical inquiries with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Work closely with product procurement, technical support, and marketing to ensure alignment on offerings and customer messaging.
  • Provide feedback to leadership on customer trends, design tool needs, and product gaps.
  • All other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in solar system design or technical sales, preferably in a DIY or DTC environment.
  • 2+ years of experience in leadership or management role.
  • Proficiency with solar design software (e.g., Aurora, Helioscope, or similar).
  • Deep understanding of PV system components including inverters, batteries, and mounting solutions.
  • NABCEP certification or equivalent technical credential.
  • Experience with CRM and sales pipeline management tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot).
  • Background in the residential DIY market or ecommerce solar sales.
  • Familiarity with permitting and interconnection requirements in key U.S. markets.
