About the role
- Associate Accountant at Shield AI managing day-to-day accounting operations and compliance in Australia. Collaborating with regional and U.S. finance teams for accurate financial management.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and cross-functional initiatives within the Australia entity.
- Perform daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with payroll processing and coordination with external providers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Australian employment legislation.
- Prepare financial reports, schedules, and analysis to support internal reporting and audits.
- Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards, taxation requirements (BAS, GST, PAYG), and regulatory obligations.
- Partner with operations, procurement, and program teams to ensure accurate cost tracking and alignment with project budgets.
- Help implement and refine financial controls, processes, and accounting systems as Shield AI continues to scale in Australia.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within technology, defence, aerospace, or high-growth environments.
- Solid understanding of Australian accounting standards (AASB), tax laws, and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Xero) and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate with global teams.
