About the role

  • Medical Assistant providing direct and indirect patient care at Unity Pulmonary Medicine Sleep Disorders Center. Engaging in clinical and non-clinical responsibilities to support healthcare providers and patient education.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts pre-visit planning (PVP).
  • Accurately obtains and documents patient vital signs, history, and screenings.
  • Understands principles of obtaining an accurate EKG and attaches monitor leads.
  • Reviews patient medication list and pends refills for provider's approval.
  • Collects specimen, conducts tests and documents patient POCT.
  • Demonstrates competency in Phlebotomy, including correct labeling of specimen tubes.
  • Provides clinical assistance to providers and nursing personnel as per delegation.
  • Assists provider with procedures.
  • Provides instruction and information as part of patient education process under the guidance of providers or RN.
  • Restocks medical supplies in exam and treatment rooms.
  • Completes patient forms.
  • Submits Prior Authorizations requests.
  • Mails provider communications to patients.
  • Compiles statistical data from patient records as necessary for Quality Assurance/Improvement activities.
  • Answer phones and schedules appointments.
  • Check in and Check out patients.
  • Verifies insurance.
  • Processes referrals.
  • Sorts and delivers mail.
  • Collects and posts payments, and may also perform charge entry.
  • Maintains non-clinical office supplies.

Requirements

  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Experience in pre-hospital care activities or acute/critical care experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Strong customer service, computer, and communication skills highly desired.
