About the role

  • Identify technical information and accurately assign Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes to imported or exported goods primarily in and out of the United States
  • Perform Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification utilizing all available tools
  • Research product information within Olympus product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
  • Identify and collaborate with internal Olympus subject matter experts to obtain the necessary information for HTS classification and other Trade Compliance activities
  • Monitor and maintain the Olympus HTS database and related systems
  • Maintain and draft periodic updates to HTS classification work instructions, training materials, and decision trees
  • Assist with the identification of classification requests, proactively identify future requests, and communicate with the appropriate internal Olympus stakeholders
  • Identify additional import reporting requirements and collect the necessary data to make entry
  • Determine country of origin, obtain Lacey Act documentation, review Antidumping and Countervailing case applicability

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Business, Legal, Foreign Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering or other related field
  • 7+ years of Trade Compliance experience with a focus on Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification
  • Experience working for multinationals or in global classification centers of excellence
  • Advanced-level Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification skills
  • Proven experience navigating and interpreting the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States
  • Experience determining Antidumping and Countervailing (AD/CVD) case applicability
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and time-sensitive projects which required input from multiple business functions
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 suite
  • Must have an intermediate or better level of proficiency in Excel
  • Fluent in English
  • Must be technically proficient with engineering, legal, and trade compliance terms
  • Thorough knowledge of the application and usage of the General Rules of Interpretation, Section and Chapter Notes, Explanatory Notes, Customs rulings, Informed Compliance publications and other classification tools
  • Ability to navigate product lifecycle management (PLM) systems to obtain the necessary technical information for classification purposes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, illustrations, and other technical information
  • Knowledge of partner government agency (PGA) import requirements
  • Ability to develop professional working partnerships internally and externally
  • Travel 10%
