About the role

  • Senior Director directing health and safety initiatives for Nutrien, a leader in agricultural services. Focus on enhancing safety culture and compliance in Calgary and Saskatoon operations.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, govern and continuously enhance health and safety elements of the Nutrien Way (integrated management system), supporting effective mitigation of material risks.
  • Support the identification, assessment and mitigation of material health and safety risks across all operations, including physical and psychological hazards.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve strategic health and safety programs and initiatives, including input to leadership capability building, to enable a continuously evolving positive safety culture.
  • Support regulatory compliance, including monitoring, reporting, and responding to regulatory changes across health and safety dimensions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on material health and safety risks and controls to operating segments as requested through EHSS business partners.
  • Collaborate with EHSS business partnership team on the design and delivery of company-wide health and safety training and material to support capability building.
  • Contribute expertise to assurance activities focused on management of health and safety risks and opportunities, including business development due diligence support.
  • Coordinate the contractor management framework, in partnership with the Procurement Function and EHSS business partnership teams, so far as it relates to EHSS performance.
  • Oversee compliance with transportation safety regulatory requirements across rail, road, and marine networks relevant to the movement of company products.
  • Engage external stakeholders (regulators, NGOs, industry bodies, communities) to advance health and safety objectives and manage reputational risks.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing health and safety functions within complex organizations
  • Senior leader who has achieved significant success in one-or-more other businesses by driving change and innovation, resulting in superior results.
  • Progressive leadership positions in health and safety positions in the agricultural, mining, chemical processing, or transportation industries.
  • Experience leading large-scale safety initiatives in industrial or agricultural environments - particularly in mining, manufacturing, or chemical operations.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations is critical.
  • Proven skills in risk assessment, incident investigation, and assurance activities will support the role’s focus on mitigating material risks.
  • Experience in public relations, industry advocacy, and collaborative problem-solving would be valuable.
  • Sustained experience in strategic oversight and governance across complex organizational environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership in establishing and maintaining a culture of workplace safety, policy compliance, and process excellence, while driving product innovation and continuous improvement.
