About the role

  • Strategic Communications Director providing vision and direction for messaging at Working Washington. Leading campaigns that shift narratives about labor, workers, and economic justice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision and direction for our work, shifting the narrative around labor, workers, and our economy
  • Supervise at least one communications specialist, ensuring they have consistent work plans, feedback, and coaching
  • Manage digital communications to support campaigns with emails, action alerts, and other communications efforts
  • Represent the organization and provide strategic communications support to coalitions
  • Manage and help execute an annual communications plan
  • Support the development of worker leaders by coaching worker leaders and training staff
  • Develop, grow, and manage social media strategy
  • Oversee staff management of media relationships

Requirements

  • Mastery of core communications tactics in social media, paid media, earned media, and print media, and demonstrated ability to develop compelling narrative and use storytelling for movement building through shrewd use of these tactics
  • Fluency with media relations, and a clear understanding of and ability to assess the earned media environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with politically underrepresented and historically marginalized communities, and training and supporting workers as spokespeople
  • Strong project management skills and ability to track multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Proactive commitment to collaborating on new and emerging projects, and ability to thoughtfully communicate and discuss ideas as well as ask for help
  • Prior experience managing a team and/or supervising and coaching staff
