Responsibilities
- Ensure communications efforts are aligned with the City’s priorities and plans
- Provide strategic communications advice and support to programs, services, and initiatives
- Deliver strategic communications by aligning and integrating communications initiatives across the corporation with a focus on graphic design
- Leverage new and innovative information channels and technologies, e.g., social media and rich media (video)
- Support Council and departments with legislative and policy communications
- Manage the City’s emergency communications in support of the Office of Emergency Management
- Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive public education, awareness and corporate communications initiatives and events
Requirements
- Completion of university degree in communications, journalism or public relations, or related field
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the field of communications, public relations, journalism, marketing and/or media relations, including recent experience in the field of rich media
- Effective use of rich media for communications
- Effective communication tactics and techniques using traditional and web-based channels
- Trends in communications industry and approaches
- Microsoft Office and related software such as Adobe InDesign suite, including After Effects
- Familiarity working in a MAC environment
- Photography and videography
