About the role

  • Export Compliance Manager supervising compliance with international trade regulations and laws. Monitor export orders and maintain necessary documentation while ensuring adherence to TSA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Remain informed of current export issues, regulations, and laws through the attendance of compliance training sponsored by the government and industry experts.
  • Familiarize appropriate division staff with international trade laws and regulations.
  • Monitor international inbound and outbound orders; investigating and expediting those orders which have been delayed.
  • This includes performing sanctions and export control checks on held shipments.
  • Prepare, update, and retain requisite domestic and international export documentation.
  • Comply with all TSA regulations and monitoring of the following but not limited to: Training IACMS Portal Internal Export Compliance Audits TSA Audits TSA/ Export Compliance Trainings
  • Remain up-to-date on all relevant international trade regulations, export controls, and sanctions.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with government regulations such as ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), EAR (Export Administration Regulations), Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), and other trade compliance laws.
  • Maintain and implement effective controls for the compliant handling of hazardous materials (dangerous goods) cargo.
  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with export compliance, including potential fines or penalties.
  • Implement internal controls to minimize compliance risks.
  • Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records related to export transactions.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory authorities.
  • Generate internal reports to provide insights into compliance performance.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement in the export compliance process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or related field or combination equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the freight forwarding industry.
  • Knowledge of import and export both ocean and air operations management.
  • Experience with hazardous materials (dangerous goods) cargo.
  • Excellent computer knowledge, advanced Microsoft Office proficiency, and experience with Cargowise is ideal.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capable of managing a healthy amount of stress coming from customer deadlines and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong business acumen with a keen aptitude to quickly assimilate new information.
  • Excellent organization, analytical, written, and oral communications skills.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, while exercising sound judgement.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to solve complex problems.
  • Must be a confident self-starter who can develop effective business relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Candidates must be self-motivated, customer service oriented, and eager to ensure the success of the team.
  • Ability to function independently, with minimal supervision, and thrive within a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
