About the role

  • Engineering Director leading engineering managers and laboratory teams at Lear Corporation. Overseeing design processes and ensuring adherence to standards while mentoring potential leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Engineering Team
  • Lead German and Czech Republic engineering managers and EU Laboratory managers
  • Enhance the definition and refine the design and development process
  • Secure adherence to all internal and external standards, policies, and laws
  • Support escalation of quality claims and alignment of engineering / lab team direction
  • Promotion of teamwork and leading the team to define and achieve objectives
  • Ensure good motivation and engagement is present within the team
  • Evaluation of employee skills and training requirements
  • Provide mentoring to potential leaders in the organization
  • Vet and hire new talent
  • Actively support development of global product roadmap
  • Participate in benchmarking/ research into new technology areas
  • Developments may be outside of traditional CS product types (ex: CCS).
  • Leverage global cross functional capabilities
  • Guide engineering through RFQ process and Technical Design Review preparations
  • Present Lear CS Engineering capabilities and product focus to customers in TDR
  • Strategic planning of Vertical Integration product to EDS (Wire Harness Division)
  • Manage European Engineering and Laboratory budget
  • Current year month end close and forecasting
  • Develop "Next year" budget
  • Approval of spend
  • Execution of corporate cost reduction "tasks" including Footprint optimization and expanded utilization of locations Brno and PETC in CS
  • Efficiency improvement actions including integration digital tools, simulation, and automation of engineering value added steps
  • Build cooperative relationship between adjacent departments
  • Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Cost and Price, EDS, Electronics, High Power, Seating, Lab, Quality …
  • Support lab to enhance Connection Systems validation capabilities.
  • Lead the CTO activities (cost saving initiatives) to ensure we hit our annual targets by ensuring a roadmap is developed via regularly scheduled workshops with clear take away actions (who is doing what by when)

Requirements

  • Technical University degree
  • Extensive experience over many years in Engineering management and/or Project Management, preferably in Terminal & Connectors business
  • Knowledge in operations/manufacturing (progressive die stamping, injection moulding, assembly)
  • Metals and plastics
  • Quality and Engineering processes, methods and tools, such as APQP, DFMEA, DFSS, FEM
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
