About the role

• Engineering Manager leading and shaping backend architecture and internal platforms for Kaufland's e-commerce marketplace. Overseeing IAM, mailing services, and contributing to team development.

Responsibilities

• We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one of our platform teams.
• This team plays a critical role in shaping and optimizing our internal platforms, focusing on Identity & Access Management (IAM), mailing services, and our backend architecture.
• As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a highly skilled team that defines the technical foundation of our company.
• The team’s main responsibilities include:
• Shaping the backend architecture: Providing guidelines and best practices to ensure high-quality and efficient backend development.
• Maintaining and evolving our shop monolith to keep it up to date with modern standards.
• Developing tooling and boilerplate code to empower other teams to build and manage backend services as easily and efficiently as possible.
• Maintaining and improving an existing mailing service that handles email templating and delivery.
• Ensuring the service remains stable and adaptable to new requirements.
• Supporting teams by providing a project-based IAM solution that product teams can deploy independently.
• You are not afraid to get your hands dirty by actively contributing to development efforts with a focus on using backend technologies such as Golang and PHP (among others).
• You have found your passion in software development - you enjoy removing roadblocks, helping others, creating transparency and alignment.
• You are responsible for advancing your team members’ skills and careers and inspiring them through purpose.
• You make sure we are continuously raising the engineering bar, with experience and passion for software excellence.
• You are responsible for the delivery of the IAM and Mailing product, which is part of our Developer Experience and Platform Area, while balancing time, budget, and quality.
• You develop, monitor and own the relevant KPIs for your teams (cost, SLAs, SLIs, etc.).
• You contribute to our guidelines, policies and standards to improve how we work.

Requirements

• You have a background in a product team, focusing on the right technical solutions and don’t shy away from owning your products end-to-end
• You have several years of hands-on engineering experience in Golang and knowledge of PHP
• Initial leadership experience through mentoring, coaching, or in a managerial position is beneficial but not required. We seek someone passionate about people management who wants to grow into an Engineering Manager role
• You have experience with utilizing cloud and infrastructure resources and are familiar with tools like Kubernetes
• Your communication and interpersonal skills stand out, enabling you to collaborate effectively with product teams.
• You are fluent in English (C1) and enjoy working in an international environment
• Your approach is results-oriented, with a dedicated focus on delivering top-notch solutions.
