About the role

  • Virtual Propulsion Engineer leading FEA based structural dynamic stress analysis for ICE, PHEV & BEV propulsion systems at GM. Collaborating with diverse teams to drive component design with cutting-edge analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Build, troubleshoot, and run complex analytical models to assess dynamic stress behavior as well as noise and vibration performance.
  • Provide component level and/or system level design recommendations to customers (DRE’s, N&V engineers) based on interpretation of analysis results
  • Advance analysis capabilities to reduce physical testing needs and support GM’s vision for increased virtualization.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve standard work and procedural documentation.
  • Support teams throughout the full program lifecycle—from concept through production—ensuring CAE models are optimized for effective customer use.
  • Lead capability‑building initiatives related to our area of expertise
  • Drive efforts in cost reduction, size optimization, and overall efficiency improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to engineers to ensure accurate, efficient delivery of virtual propulsion work.
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with cross‑functional teams, including Advanced, Program, Design Release, Validation, and NVH engineering groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or other related fields
  • 3+ years of engineering experience with FEA software (Abaqus, Optistruct)
  • Knowledge of Structural Dynamics as it pertains to NVH
  • Understanding of ICE, PHEV and BEV vehicle system and integration
  • High level of technical problem-solving skills and experience in the production domain to address vehicle level issues.
  • Ability to occasionally work non-standard hours to collaborate with our overseas analysis support team
  • Ability to create and present information to leadership, peers, customers, and suppliers in a clear and concise manner
  • Familiarity with a variety of other CAE tools (such as HyperMesh, Optistruct, ANSA, AMEsim, ADAMS/or any MBD Tools], Actran, Abaqus, Python and/or Matlab etc.
