About the role

  • Head of Government Affairs managing Expedia's lobbying efforts and public policies across Canada and Caribbean. Leading government relations and advocating for the company's interests amidst complex regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Understand how the organization operates (i.e., business model and operations, financial performance, and key success factors).
  • Identify regulatory challenges and opportunities and lead actions based on your understanding of the local political context, and your ability to analyze and draft legislation and briefing materials, with support from legal, tax, and other internal teams.
  • Advocate for and defend Expedia Group’s public policy positions before municipal, provincial, and federal legislative and executive bodies.
  • Lead government relations and associated resources, including local lobbying teams and, where applicable, political contributions, sponsorships, and partnerships.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on policy and advocacy for Expedia Group teams.
  • Propose, draft, and deliver communications materials, including testimony, blog posts, and other creative content, in collaboration with our public policy communications and community engagement team, meeting external deadlines.
  • Travel, sometimes on short notice, to meet directly with local or regional decision-makers on important legislative matters.

Requirements

  • Experience in public policy, media and communications, and in developing and implementing advocacy strategies
  • 3+ years of direct lobbying experience is an asset
  • Understanding of the processes and structures of Canadian municipal, provincial, and federal governments
  • Ability to read, understand, and fluently use public policy language
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and advance lobbying and advocacy strategies
  • Ability to prioritize multiple complex projects at different stages of development, often under tight deadlines
  • Experience developing creative and effective strategies to address complex communications and legislative challenges
  • Comfortable making high-level recommendations and strategic decisions, and communicating those recommendations to company leadership
