Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Test & Measurement, the Director of R&D is responsible for planning, managing and executing research and development activities for the Manufacturing, Development and Research business unit.
Plays a strategic role in technological innovation, new product development and continuous improvement of existing solutions for optical instruments, test solutions for integrated photonics and high-speed instrumentation.
Define the R&D vision and strategy in alignment with the company's business objectives.
Lead development projects for new instruments and solutions, from design through to market launch.
Supervise multiple multidisciplinary teams including engineers and technicians working on both hardware and software development.
Collaborate with production, marketing, quality and regulatory affairs departments.
Maintain technological and scientific watch to identify innovation opportunities.
Manage R&D project budgets, resources and schedules.
Establish partnerships with universities, research centers and other industry stakeholders.
Ensure protection of intellectual property (patents, licenses, etc.).
Represent the company at conferences, trade shows and scientific events.
Requirements
University degree in physics, optics, engineering or a related field (PhD an asset).
Minimum of 10 years of R&D experience, including at least 5 years in project or team management.
Proven expertise in product design and development in a high-technology sector.
Desired expertise in one or more of the following areas: optical instrumentation, integrated photonics, telecommunications, high-speed instrumentation.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality standards.
Recognized leadership with the ability to mobilize and inspire a team.
Project management, strategic planning and budgeting skills.
Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written.
