Summer Communications Intern assisting with communications projects for the National Alliance to End Homelessness. Engaging in collaborative work to support their mission during a 10-week program.
Responsibilities
A Summer Communications Intern will assist in projects with the Communications team and support efforts around the Alliance’s National Conference on Ending Homelessness and Capitol Hill Day in July.
Draft and edit Communications team products: This may include assisting in the creation of policy briefs, blog posts, newsletters, development appeals, website copy, and conference content.
Develop social media content: This may include generating ideas, developing drafts, and/or publishing engaging social media posts through copywriting, graphic design, and/or video editing.
Research and report: This may include research into existing or proposed legislation or policies, tracking media clips, keeping minutes and drafting reports from conference calls and meetings, or monitoring web and social media analytics.
Conduct fact-finding for Alliance products: This may include interviewing local providers, homeless system leaders, national partner organizations, and conducting interviews with consumers who have experienced homelessness.
Support staff projects: This may include administrative tasks on projects developed by the Communications team, such as: auditing and organizing the Alliance website pages, collaboration on social media outputs, and attending (with and without Alliance staff) various opportunities for professional development, including policy forums, Congressional briefings, community meetings, media interviews, and others.
Requirements
Candidates with prior life experience or work experience in homeless or low-income communities, communities of color, and/or LGBTQ communities are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated interest in at least one of the following areas: public policy analysis, communications, and relationship building with individuals and groups, all focused on homelessness and poverty issues.
Demonstrated experience and ability to recognize and respond to the ways race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity intersect to further promote racial equity and social justice.
Demonstrated interest in working with marginalized or vulnerable populations (e.g., LGBTQ, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, etc.).
