About the role

• Engineering Manager leading multiple product squads, providing leadership and technology direction at Coles Group. Directing the delivery of technology initiatives and maintaining production systems.

Responsibilities

• As an Engineering Manager, you play an important role as a technology leader across multiple product squads.
• You provide leadership, coaching, support, and act as an enabler to these squads, helping them balance technology, delivery, and outcomes in alignment with the wider group’s objectives.
• In addition to delivering and executing the product roadmap, you are also accountable for running and maintaining what has been built once delivered to production.
• People Leadership - Manage multiple squads of technologists that collaborate to deliver projects and products aligned with Coles’ business objectives.
• Coaching individuals and teams towards desired behaviours, shared values, and high performance through regular feedback and guidance.
• Supporting team members’ career development and performance management.
• Building and hiring high-quality teams in line with Coles’ engineering hiring practices.
• Technology Product Ownership - Play a critical role in shaping what the squads are building and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Translating clear business requirements into actionable work items for squads.
• Promoting agile methodologies and continuous improvement while coaching and supporting squads.
• Act as the service custodian for the technology products and assets owned by your squads, ensuring they are reliable, resilient, and well-supported.

Requirements

• Ideally at least 3 years’ experience leading highly skilled engineering teams and delivering large, complex programs of work.
• Ideally at least 7 years’ experience in product development, with a strong track record of delivering end-to-end outcomes; experience in web and/or native mobile app development is highly regarded.
• Deep experience building and coaching high-performance teams, with proven success applying agile methodologies and driving continuous improvement.
• Experience working within complex system architectures, and overseeing operations, scaling, and support structures.
• Proven ability to deliver outcomes as part of a cross-functional group, coordinating across multiple teams and stakeholders, including onshore/offshore delivery models and external vendors/integrators.
• Tertiary qualifications in a technology or engineering discipline such as Computer Science, Information Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Strong delivery management skills, with proven experience leading the end-to-end delivery of technology initiatives.
