About the role
- Senior Director responsible for mortgage origination, underwriting, and commitment in real estate at Canada Life. Leading commercial mortgage transactions and ensuring compliance with investment policies.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Senior Managing Director of Origination
- Originate, negotiate, underwrite and recommend new ICI mortgage loans to align with Company investment policies, procedures
- Direct the preliminary underwriting for new loans to obtain senior management agreement prior to proceeding with the transaction
- Prepare and negotiate term sheets and prepare commitment letters confirming financial terms and conditions as approved by the Company
- Ensure all terms and conditions of commitment letters have been satisfied working in association with the Mortgage Administration/Documentation team
- Ensure yield requirements and risk management in compliance with investment policies.
Requirements
- Bilingualism (fluent in French and English) required
- Post secondary degree in business, finance or real estate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Enrollment in or completion of an MBA, CFA program or A.A.C.I. real estate appraisal program would be an asset
- 5 - 10 years experience in commercial real estate.
- Direct commercial mortgage lending experience preferred
- Good understanding of commercial valuation methodology, financial statement review, credit, and real estate market and real property analysis
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills (Excel) and Power Point.
