About the role

  • CTO responsible for technical strategy and team leadership at an energy transition startup. Overseeing software architecture and product development to enhance energy systems.

Responsibilities

  • Technical and commercial overall responsibility
  • Shape the company vision, strategy and business model as an equal member of the founding team
  • Define and implement Calvergy’s overall technical strategy
  • Build a scalable, maintainable and future-proof platform architecture
  • Technical decision-making responsibility towards investors, partners and customers
  • Product and platform development
  • End-to-end responsibility for the software architecture (backend, frontend, DevOps, Data/ML)
  • Architecture and scaling of our backend systems (e.g., Python, FastAPI/Django, data pipelines)
  • Close integration of simulation, AI/optimization models and product logic
  • Ensure code quality, performance, security and technical excellence
  • Work closely with users to translate real-world problems into marketable products
  • Team building and leadership
  • Build, lead and inspire a high-performing tech team
  • Recruit, mentor and develop engineers and data talent
  • Define development processes, engineering culture, tooling and quality standards
  • Act as the interface between engineering, product, sales and external partners
  • Hands-on mentality (especially in the early stage)
  • Actively contribute to critical components in the backend, frontend and cloud infrastructure
  • Build DevOps structures (CI/CD, cloud, monitoring)
  • Rapid prototyping, validation and iteration of new features together with customers

Requirements

  • Several years of experience as a CTO, Tech Lead, Lead Engineer or Senior Full Stack Developer — or comparable entrepreneurial experience
  • Strong expertise in system and software architecture (ideally Python + a modern cloud stack)
  • Experience with frontend technologies (e.g., React, TypeScript)
  • Solid understanding of scalable platforms, APIs, data architectures and distributed systems
  • Initial experience building and leading teams
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, ownership mentality and high intrinsic motivation
  • Willingness to take responsibility — technically, strategically and in terms of people leadership
  • Bonus: experience with AI/ML, optimization, simulation or energy systems
