About the role
- Staff Attorney providing legal representation for tenants facing eviction through BronxWorks' Tenant Defense Program. Engaging in litigation and community outreach while fostering collaboration in housing justice efforts.
Responsibilities
- Provide full legal representation for tenants in Housing Court, administrative hearings, and NYCHA proceedings.
- Handle all aspects of litigation: client counseling, research, motion practice, negotiations, discovery, depositions, hearings, and trials.
- Participate in court‑based intake and maintain regular communication with clients.
- Build expertise in housing law, subsidies, and public benefits.
- Conduct community outreach, workshops, and Know Your Rights trainings.
- Attend in‑person team meetings and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- July 2025 Bar Exam taker, newly admitted NY attorney, or recent bar passer.
- Commitment to social justice and working with diverse communities.
- Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage a high‑volume, fast‑paced caseload.
- Housing or landlord‑tenant experience.
- Litigation exposure (clinic, internship, externship).
- Spanish or other relevant language proficiency.
