About the role

  • Staff Attorney providing legal representation for tenants facing eviction through BronxWorks' Tenant Defense Program. Engaging in litigation and community outreach while fostering collaboration in housing justice efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full legal representation for tenants in Housing Court, administrative hearings, and NYCHA proceedings.
  • Handle all aspects of litigation: client counseling, research, motion practice, negotiations, discovery, depositions, hearings, and trials.
  • Participate in court‑based intake and maintain regular communication with clients.
  • Build expertise in housing law, subsidies, and public benefits.
  • Conduct community outreach, workshops, and Know Your Rights trainings.
  • Attend in‑person team meetings and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • July 2025 Bar Exam taker, newly admitted NY attorney, or recent bar passer.
  • Commitment to social justice and working with diverse communities.
  • Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage a high‑volume, fast‑paced caseload.
  • Housing or landlord‑tenant experience.
  • Litigation exposure (clinic, internship, externship).
  • Spanish or other relevant language proficiency.
