About the role

  • Executive Director leading immunology and cardiovascular research at Bristol Myers Squibb. Driving early discovery portfolio and strategic collaborations in drug discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Applies leading-edge knowledge of principles, concepts, practices, and techniques to lead highly complex projects involving multi-disciplinary groups and external organizations.
  • Is recognized as an influential authority across the company and in the external community and is a known subject matter expert in drug discovery that provides strategic and functional guidance in immunology and cardiovascular diseases and drug development.
  • Recognizes and champions drug discovery programs and initiatives to support strategic research goals and direction across multiple disciplines.
  • Recommends expansion or curtailment of projects and programs on the basis of experimental results or scientific information.
  • Delivers results that have an impact on company performance strategically, financially, and operationally.
  • Is a proven leader whose expertise is sought after by the external community.
  • Acts as a role model for a culture of responsible risk-taking and curiosity.
  • Encourages and develops this capability in others and is an active mentor for developing scientific leadership and excellence at all levels.

  • Develop programs to systematically identify and validate novel targets and progress drug discovery efforts in immunology and cardiovascular disease.
  • Develop opportunities to combine cutting edge technologies, drug discovery and therapeutic area expertise to develop new programs in immunology and/or cardiovascular disease.
  • Participate and help lead external collaborations with academic and biotechnology groups to help progress our target and drug discovery efforts.
  • Identify and champion opportunities for collaboration across BMS expertise.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree 20+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences 15+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • 10+ years of leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience and success in immunology and/or cardiovascular drug discovery, application of a variety of approaches in target validation, high throughput biology and drug discovery.
  • Broad knowledge in immunology and/or cardiovascular biology and demonstrated interest and ability to rapidly learn expertise and contribute to new areas of research and disease areas.
  • Experience leading a diverse set of scientific programs and cross functional teams.
  • Experience and ability to lead directly within an organization and across internal and external indirect relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, management and mentorship skills and comfort and experience managing across diverse expertise and cultures.
