Biologist/Permit Specialist managing environmental permits for transportation projects at Oregon Department of Transportation. Collaborating on project proposals and ensuring regulatory compliance in environmental services.
Responsibilities
Review project proposals and planned maintenance actions to resolve the need for environmental permits or clearances
Act as the liaison between ODOT project teams and external regulatory agencies to ensure projects are in compliance with environmental regulations and requirements
Work cohesively with designers from different work sections to prepare permit documentation, mediate differences and help develop a consensus for final plans
Provide technical expertise regarding storm water permitting requirements
Provide guidance to construction and maintenance personnel, technical staff and managers regarding permit requirements for transportation projects
Evaluate and assess the impact of transportation projects on biological resources within the project area of potential impact
Perform botanical, faunal and other field surveys for species potentially affected by transportation projects
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in an environmental science, a physical science, a natural science, engineering, or a closely-related field AND two years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record
General knowledge of one or more of the following: fish biology, fish passage, botany or water quality
Experience with state and federal environmental permitting processes
Practice in relational skills and the ability to work in a team environment
Skill in technical writing skills and the ability to organize a large workload with varying timelines and shifting priorities
