About the role

  • Join the Data Science team at Blackhawk Network to help drive business value through advanced data analysis and machine learning model insights.
  • Build, maintain, and extend technology systems that provide significant value to BHN's business, including fraud prevention systems.
  • Perform data-driven analysis on key strategic issues—from customer segmentation to real-time risk management tools.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Product, and Executive teams to ensure optimal performance of data systems and models.
  • Work closely with the Data Science and ML Engineering teams to generate reports on machine learning model performance and health.
  • Help improve models through post-decision performance analysis.
  • Monitor and analyze brand statistics to ensure fair decision-making across multiple brands.
  • Set up and manage AB and multivariate tests; interpret results for business stakeholders.
  • Interface with Product and Engineering to ensure optimal instrumentation of BHN risk models and reported data visualizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science, Physics, or another analytical degree required.
  • 1–2 years of experience working with data to address key business challenges in an engineering or quantitative role.
  • Strong programming skills, with proven proficiency in Python for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in either the Streamlit Python package or Power BI for visualization and dashboarding.
  • Strong analytical background with expert ability to break down and clearly define complex business and technical problems.
  • Proficient in understanding and analyzing machine learning methodologies/statistical modeling (regression, classification, and unsupervised approaches).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
