About the role
- Surgical Technician caring for women in labor within a Level 2 Women and Infant's Services setting. Supporting childbirth procedures with a team at Banner Health in Mesa, Arizona.
Responsibilities
- Selects and places surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during surgery
- Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedure
- Prepares for surgical procedures
- Anticipates the surgeon's needs
- Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure
- Participates in counting of sharps, instruments and sponges
- Assists with OR turnover between cases
- Provides business support to the department including assigned administrative tasks
- Follows safety procedures in regards to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments
- Participates in emergency call rotation
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- Current basic life support certification
- Must be registered with State Regulatory Agency
- Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations
- Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly
- Ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient
- Stay abreast of new developments in the field
- Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or two years of operating room experience (preferred)
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
