Senior Director shaping clinical engagement and programming at Alzheimer's Association. Leading initiatives to impact Alzheimer’s and dementia research and clinical practice globally.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership for the Medical Affairs Department in the creation, oversight, and dissemination of clinical materials and resources across the organization, including web-based content and related publications.
Expand clinical engagement across the Medical & Scientific and Medical Affairs Division to support organizational needs and strengthen the Association’s role as a leader in clinical practice and research translation.
Advance clinical offerings within the convening function of the Division to grow clinician presence through innovative Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) programming.
Collaborate with the Vice President of Engagement to deliver in-person, hybrid, and virtual pre-conferences, main conference sessions, and professional education opportunities.
Partner with external experts to co-develop CME and non-CME content.
Lead the expansion of focused conferences in clinical programming and oversee their execution, with the goal of engaging new clinical audiences such as family practitioners, primary care physicians, and advanced practice providers.
Collaborating with the Director of ISTAART and its Professional Interest Areas (PIAs) to broaden programming and increase clinical participation within the society.
This includes year-round webinars, podcasts, written communications, and expanded CME opportunities in collaboration with Health Systems, Mission Engagement, and Product Divisions.
Work with the Director of Journals to integrate Alzheimer’s Association–hosted conferences and ISTAART initiatives with the Alzheimer’s & Dementia journal family, ensuring a seamless experience that unites scientific and clinical programming.
Serve as a spokesperson for the Association, collaborating with the Chapter network to disseminate treatment and research messages.
Translate complex science into accessible communications for internal and external stakeholders in support of the Alzheimer’s Association Strategic Plan.
Partner with the Chief Science Officer, VP of Medical Affairs, and Medical & Scientific Relations team to expand the Alzheimer’s Network for Treatment and Diagnostics (ALZ-NET), disseminate education and training materials, and implement evidence-based tools to improve early diagnosis, treatment, and quality care.
Represent the Alzheimer’s Association in the media as a trusted voice on scientific and medical advancements related to Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Requirements
Medical Degree (MD or DO) or Ph.D. in neurology, geriatrics, geriatric psychiatry, family practice, or primary care, with extensive experience serving geriatric populations.
Demonstrated expertise in global and U.S. medical affairs, including medical education, scientific data disclosure planning, and collaboration with commercial stakeholders.
Outstanding enthusiasm and ability to effectively communicate complex science and research issues to diverse audiences, including laypersons, clinicians, researchers, media, and groups ranging from small meetings to large-scale conferences.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly across technical, scientific, and non-scientific audiences, including through written presentations.
Direct experience working with hospital and/or clinical populations related to Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
Proficiency in managing complex internal and external stakeholder relationships and cultivating collaborations that advance the Association’s mission and scientific initiatives.
Knowledge of designing and leading programs for clinical or social/behavioral interventions.
Proven ability to provide leadership, coaching, and operational direction to diverse staff.
Preferred experience with clinical trial recruitment in a clinical setting.
Experience analyzing clinical trial protocols to develop effective communication tactics that support patient recruitment.
Ability to translate scientific findings into applied clinical tools or processes that improve practice and outcomes.
Skilled at presenting scientific and medical information to non-technical audiences.
Experience managing technical and professional staff.
Experience writing, reviewing, and analyzing scientific and medical publications.
Ability to travel extensively within the U.S. and internationally (estimated ~50%); must possess a valid passport, driver’s license, and safe driving record.
