Underwriter providing insurance and surety solutions for the Construction Services team. Managing complex risk, profitability, and relationships with clients and agents.
Responsibilities
Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business primarily comprised of accounts with the highest complexity.
Underwrite and skillfully negotiate the most complex, at-risk, or hard-to-close deals to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
Partner with MD to execute business unit underwriting strategies across your team’s book of business to achieve profit and growth objectives.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to identify cross-selling opportunities.
Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products with a goal of writing and retaining accounts consistent with our risk appetite.
Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
Develop and execute individual agency sales plans that align with region/group sales plans to drive team success.
Consult with Managing Director (MD) to support region/group sales plans.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and strategic counsel on underwriting to all levels of underwriters within region or business unit.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree.
Eight to ten years of applicable underwriting experience.
Expert level knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance and surety markets.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to underwrite, market products, identify financial challenges, and analyze available information to make decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
Ability to execute strategic direction across assigned territory in partnership with leadership.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.
Experience coaching and mentoring others.
Five years of underwriting experience.
