About the role

  • Operations Control Lead managing risk and control activities across North America operations. Overseeing risk assessments, testing programs, and team of Control Testing Specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business units through RCSA preparation, execution, and documentation – providing constructive challenge to control effectiveness ratings backed by evidence.
  • Own the annual premium coding testing program – a key SOX control for underwriting – ensuring all testing is completed within required deadlines and to required standards.
  • Partner with the Financial Controls Unit (FCU) and SOX teams to design and execute testing strategies and sampling methodologies tailored to product line risk profiles, process design, and premium volume.
  • Manage and develop a team of Control Testing Specialists, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Perform process walkthroughs, collect policy documentation, triage testing requests, and lead root cause analysis on discrepancies – maintaining all testing documentation to quality standards.
  • Communicate testing results and findings clearly to senior management and key stakeholders, surfacing trends, systemic risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Track and manage control remediation activities arising from RCSAs, audit findings, and risk events through closure.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to digitize and automate testing procedures and reporting dashboards, improving quality and efficiency across the program.
  • Serve as the primary business liaison for ad-hoc requests from FCU/SOX and external auditor team on underwriting processes and controls.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in insurance or financial services
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting processes, policy and binder terms, and premium coding practices
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities with rigor and calm under deadline pressure
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a habit of evidence-based reasoning
  • Clear, confident communication style – comfortable presenting findings to senior leaders across product lines
  • Experience navigating organizational change and driving process improvement
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with SharePoint and GRC tools a plus
