About the role
- Senior Cloud Operations Engineer optimizing Azure cloud platforms and services at AIA Australia. Leading technical governance and automation practices for operational excellence and cost optimization.
Responsibilities
- Lead the reliability, resilience and continuous improvement of Azure cloud platforms through strong operational governance, proactive monitoring, automation and AIOps‑ready design practices.
- Design and deliver advanced automation using PowerShell, Python and KQL to improve operational efficiency, compliance, platform hygiene and incident prevention, while embedding responsible AI principles.
- Drive FinOps practices across the cloud estate, including cost optimisation, forecasting, anomaly detection and reporting, delivering against agreed budgets and cost optimisation targets.
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for high‑severity incidents, change and problem management, disaster recovery testing and long‑term remediation, ensuring strong availability and performance outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership and collaboration across engineering teams, security, finance, AIA Group and managed service partners, ensuring clear communication, prioritisation and high standards of delivery.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in infrastructure operations or platform engineering, with significant hands on experience supporting Microsoft Azure based environments.
- Demonstrated capability in cloud operations including automation, scripting and monitoring, with exposure to AI supported or data driven operational tooling.
- Experience operating within vendor led or managed service environments, including collaboration with external service providers.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles, operational frameworks such as ITIL, and enterprise compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in FinOps and cloud cost optimisation, supported by effective stakeholder communication, problem solving skills, and relevant Azure certifications or equivalent practical experience.
