About the role

  • Data Operations Specialist at Aecon managing and optimizing data for AI. Collaborating with technical teams to ensure reliable, structured, and accessible data.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and organize data across the data lake, shared drives, raw file zones, and structured storage environments.
  • Implement and enforce data organization standards, naming conventions, folder structures, and retention policies.
  • Ensure data lineage, metadata, and documentation are consistently captured and maintained.
  • Support data governance initiatives by helping classify, tag, and secure data appropriately.
  • Manage ingestion, movement, and lifecycle of raw files and datasets across environments.
  • Monitor data pipelines and storage systems to ensure availability, accuracy, and completeness of data.
  • Coordinate with data engineers to troubleshoot ingestion issues, missing files, or data quality anomalies.
  • Oversee backup schedules, restore processes, and long-term archival strategies.
  • Support the operational health of the data lake (e.g., ADLS), including folder structures, permissions, and storage optimization.
  • Prepare, structure, and organize datasets required for AI model development and analytics.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive data operations tasks.

Requirements

  • Experience working with cloud data platforms (Azure preferred: ADLS, Azure Storage, Synapse, Databricks, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of file-based data management, folder structures, metadata, and data lifecycle concepts.
  • Familiarity with backup/restore processes, archival strategies, and storage governance.
  • Ability to work with technical teams (AI, data engineering) and translate operational needs into structured workflows.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a passion for clean, well-structured data environments.
