About the role
- Design, implement and support various aspects of the IBMi (iSeries-AS/400) platform.
- Maintain and deploy required operating system upgrades and PTF installations.
- Design and maintain IBM iSeries backups utilizing BRMS, FSFC, and VTL.
- Set up BRMS software and enterprise tape library architecture (save/restore).
- Set up and configure Full System Flash Copy (FSFC).
- Configure and manage replication/HA solutions such as Mimix, iTera, Power HA.
- Use Help Systems tools (CCSS, Robot Scheduler, Robot Alert, Nagios) for monitoring and alerting.
- Perform tuning and capacity planning for IBM iSeries systems and LPARs.
- Provide tier-3 support for operations and applications teams and handle escalated customer issues.
- Assist with object implementations and enforce IBM iSeries object level security best practices.
- Manage multiple work streams and provide clear communication within a large enterprise.
- Support 24/7 on-call rotation and perform basic hardware maintenance.
- Configure partitions and systems via HMC and Virtual HMC; interface with vendors for problem resolution.
Requirements
- Candidate must have at least Ten (10) years hands-on experience in working and supporting IBM Power environment and related networking equipment.
- Experience with replication or HA software like MIMIX or iTera; Power HA etc is required.
- Maintenance and administration of Power (IBMi servers, multiple partitions) including message handling, command line utilities, work management, job and print control, device management, system configuration and security setups, backup and restore, client access application, external process and/or file transfer integration, and PTFs management.
- Knowledge of and ability to support TCP/IP networking and IBM iSeries TCP/IP configuration and NETSTAT troubleshooting.
- Knowledge to set up BRMS, FSFC, and VTL and enterprise tape library architecture (save/restore).
- Knowledge to set up and configure Full System Flash Copy (FSFC) at expert level.
- Knowledge of Mimix replication software, or similar software (iTera) required.
- Knowledge of Help Systems tools such as CCSS, Robot Scheduler, Robot Alert, Nagios or similar software.
- Perform tuning and capacity planning for all IBM iSeries Systems/Logical Partitions.
- Provide tier-3 / 3rd tier support for operations and applications teams and for escalated customer issues.
- Assist with object implementations and adhere to IBM iSeries object level security best practices.
- Task oriented, capable of managing multiple work streams while maintaining focus on results.
- Ability to communicate clearly in a large enterprise environment.
- Able to support 24/7 on-call and perform basic hardware maintenance activities.
- Configure partitions and systems using the Hardware Management Console (HMC) through traditional HMC and Virtual HMC.
- Interface to vendor support organization(s) and work through problem resolution.
- Experience with PowerVM and VIOS a plus; experience with PowerVC and Live partition mobility a plus.
- Proficient in LPAR design, build and validation; planning and upgrading the IBMi operating system (OS/400) and HMC/Firmware.
- Skill in solving technically challenging problems involving IBMi based critical applications and hardware issues.
- Skill in prioritizing and balancing multiple tasks; skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships and providing excellent customer service.
