About the role

  • Act as the primary engineering contact for current vehicle programs, addressing system concerns and the impact of design changes on the overall system.
  • Lead complex cross-functional projects using problem-solving and optimization methodologies (e.g., 8D, Six Sigma, 3L5Y, CAE).
  • Execute hands-on optimization projects at NMPDC to rapidly develop and validate optimization concepts or fixes for current/future production issues.
  • Maintain a complete, end-to-end understanding of the system, recognizing how changes to one component (e.g., deco trim) impact others (e.g., structural sheet metal, air bag deployment).
  • Drive alignment across engineering teams, making data-driven decisions on system trade-offs and design compromises.
  • Ensure all system models, requirements documents, and problem-solving reports are accurate, complete, and effectively communicated to all levels of the organization.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive MBFMA for SET1, including boundary diagrams, P-diagrams, DFMEA, and enhanced RCL.
  • Build and maintain system definition SysML models
  • Engage with internal stakeholders (Design, Manufacturing, Electrical, Thermal, Safety) to acquire and synthesize their technical needs, expectations, and operational constraints.
  • Develop detailed use cases and translate stakeholder needs into clear, measurable system requirements (functional, performance, interface, and safety).
  • Collaborate with design and release engineers to ensure component designs meet all system requirements and align with the defined system architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive or complex system development, preferably involving body interior, exterior, or chassis systems.
  • Proven experience developing system definitions, MBFMAs and CAD designs (Catia V6) using Dassault Systems tools (MagicDraw and 3DX)
  • Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with basic mechanical fabrication, rapid prototyping, and vehicle tear-down/build-up
  • Expertise in formal problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, Six Sigma, 3L5Y).
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related technical field (even better)
  • 7+ years of experience in automotive or complex system development (even better)
  • Experience with cockpit, Instrument Panel (IP), steering, or climate system component integration (even better)
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) (even better)
  • OMG SysML certifications (even better)
  • Launch/ VO experience (even better)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification (even better).

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service
  • A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
