Advance statewide efforts to protect clean water and create more resilient rivers and watersheds
Support collaborative efforts to establish state-level protections for New Mexico’s streams and wetlands and contribute to national clean water programs and campaigns
Engage in water management and planning efforts to advance concepts that benefit river ecosystems and coldwater fisheries
Pursue statewide policy reforms and funding to facilitate instream transactions in priority waters and collaborate on federal legislation and policies
Represent TU at public meetings and hearings and engage with Congressional offices where appropriate
Identify opportunities for multi-benefit projects that improve irrigation infrastructure while benefitting species and ecosystems
Identify and/or implement pilot projects to prove innovative concepts and demonstrate success
Write grants and manage proposals, focusing on state and federal grant programs; manage grant agreements, project budgets, monitoring, and reporting
Contract with consultants and contractors to design and construct water resource projects that incorporate ecological design principles
Implement drought management strategies in key watersheds to address surface water availability and stream flows
Work with landowners, acequias, and community ditches to improve agricultural operations while increasing streamflows through voluntary programs
Identify steps for quantifying and improving flows in key trout streams, pursue water leases and other transactions to bolster refugia for trout and native species
Raise funds as necessary to design and implement water conservation projects and engage with TU colleagues across western states to apply proven strategies
Engage in storytelling to increase awareness of TU’s work and build a more equitable TU community
Work from a home office based in northern New Mexico with travel expected throughout the region

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred, master’s degree a plus
At least three years’ experience in water and natural resource management (manager-level)
At least seven years’ experience for the senior manager role
Willingness and ability to master complex water policy topics, including state water law and management frameworks
Experience with projects focused on improving irrigation systems for water conservation, fish habitat and passage improvement, and stream restoration preferred
Familiarity with fisheries management and integrating principles of water law, hydrology, water quality, and fish habitat restoration
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse partners in a highly collaborative and inclusive manner
Experience with grant writing and reporting, and excellent written and oral communication skills
Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects while prioritizing workload
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
Knowledge of northern New Mexico’s communities, cultures, and watersheds
Passion for conserving wild and native trout and the waters where they are found
Ability to solve problems and think creatively to achieve a conservation outcome
Ability and willingness to travel; valid driver’s license and vehicle required
