About the role
- Mechanical Engineer supporting design and analysis of geothermal power plant systems at Fervo Energy. Collaborating across disciplines and contributing to high-performance plant designs.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, analysis, and execution of mechanical systems for Fervo's geothermal power plants
- Contribute to the development of high-performance, cost-effective plant designs
- Own specification generation, design, and analysis of mechanical systems, components, and equipment
- Drive tradeoff analysis across mechanical and thermal systems to optimize plant performance
- Identify opportunities to simplify, accelerate, and standardize mechanical designs
- Inform and support procurement efforts relating to mechanical equipment and vendor specifications
- Demonstrate extreme ownership of cost, safety, and constructability in addition to design
- Collaborate closely across disciplines and with external partners to drive integrated solutions
- Act as a mentor to junior engineers
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 2–5 years of experience in mechanical engineering for industrial, power, or energy projects
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency with engineering analysis tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, or Python)
- Effective communicator and collaborator within cross-functional teams
- Experience with piping and pressure vessel design, rotating equipment, or heat exchangers (preferred)
- Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) (preferred)
- Exposure to geothermal, renewable, or energy infrastructure projects (preferred)
- EIT certification or working toward PE licensure (preferred)
