About the role

  • Partner with the Chief Policy & Communications Officer to implement a comprehensive communications strategy that advances advocacy, fundraising, and programmatic goals
  • Translate organizational priorities into clear, actionable communications plans with measurable outcomes
  • Ensure messaging and storytelling are aligned with CEDP’s mission, values, and long-term vision
  • Write, edit, and produce high-impact content for CEDP’s platforms and oversee contractors and consultants providing design, digital, or specialized communications support
  • Collect and elevate stories, quotes, and impact data from staff and clients to shape narratives that inspire action and demonstrate impact
  • Manage and maintain a content calendar to ensure a steady flow of timely, planned communications
  • Equip staff with tools, training, and confidence to communicate impact effectively and foster a culture of storytelling
  • Lead media strategy, build relationships with journalists, proactively secure coverage, and serve as spokesperson when needed
  • Prepare and coach staff and directly impacted clients for interviews and public engagements
  • Coordinate messaging with coalition and partner organizations and identify timely opportunities (research launches, op-eds, advocacy moments) to elevate CEDP’s voice
  • Design and oversee an internal communications strategy with the People team to strengthen employee engagement, alignment, and transparency
  • Guide development of internal newsletters, talking points, and staff-facing communications and use analytics and staff feedback to recommend improvements
  • Oversee production of organizational marketing and communications materials, ensuring consistent branding

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience in policy/advocacy communications, journalism, public relations, or related fields
  • Substantial understanding of the intersection of policy, advocacy, and narrative change
  • Proven track record of developing and executing multi-channel communications strategies in a nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven environment
  • Demonstrated success in media relations, including pitching, cultivating relationships with journalists, and securing coverage
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style across different platforms and audiences
  • Experience collecting and elevating stories of impact, ideally from directly impacted or historically marginalized communities
  • Familiarity with communications analytics and ability to apply data to improve reach and engagement
  • Experience managing contractors, consultants, or small teams to deliver communications support (design, digital, PR)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with the People/HR team on internal communications and staff engagement
  • Proven ability to translate organizational strategy into communications plans with measurable outcomes
  • Skilled at coaching staff and directly impacted clients for media, testimony, or public speaking
  • Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and community voice in communications
  • Willingness to balance strategy with hands-on content creation in a lean, collaborative team
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across diverse personal and professional backgrounds
  • Candidates must reside in Colorado, ideally within the greater Denver Metro area
