  • Supports accounting and financial support responsibilities for construction projects at Puget Sound Energy. Monitors project activities and compliance with rates, policies, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Pole Services teams with accounting, billing, and financial support responsibilities.
  • Ensures that the financial aspects of the street light construction project life cycle are properly recorded by creating orders/notifications and performing billing updates.
  • Monitors, analyzes, identifies and resolves accounting issues under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Supports the successful flow of street light projects through PSE’s internal project management system.
  • Works closely with project management to ensure compliance with WUTC (Washington Utilities & Transportation Commission) rates and tariffs, company accounting policies, and established SOX controls.
  • Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities.
  • Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

  • Ensures duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations.
  • Creates, monitors, and edits work orders in SAP.
  • Creates and maintains accurate technical master data.
  • Interprets construction project scopes to ensure compliance with company accounting policies, and line extension tariffs and schedules.
  • Generates customer billing by creating accurate and timely non-consumption contract accounts, sales contracts and other sales documents in SAP.
  • Audits facility agreements for pricing and customer data accuracy.
  • Supports the resolution of issues related to accounting, SOX controls, and tariff interpretation.
  • Works with service providers to resolve blocked billing issues.
  • Performs accounting functions such as journal entries.
  • Performs monthly problem order review and order clean-up functions.
  • Researches and resolves data and accounting problems.
  • Interprets and applies appropriate business accounting methods to construction projects and operations.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and develops solutions related to data or process errors and issues as it relates to finance, accounting, and project work.
  • Ensures the data integrity of work orders, notifications, technical master data, non-consumption billing, and other PSE data and records.
  • Responds to requests received from project managers, engineers, service providers, and other departments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the business, and represents the department in company initiatives, on an as-needed basis.
  • Conveys the elements of construction and operations to finance when discussing accounting and financial matters.
  • Performs ad hoc audits and data analyses, ensuring correct accounting and billing processes in accordance with company policies, property accounting, and budgets.
  • Represents the department with regards to change management work as it relates to other PSE departments including property accounting.
  • Participates in special projects and research.
  • Participates in system and process improvement meetings with peer and partner departments.
  • Communicates with peers, customers, and management on financial and accounting matters.
  • Performs internal department audits for compliance.
  • Participates in emergency response efforts as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting, business, construction management, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience in construction services or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of utility operations, customer construction, and accounting.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience contributing to successful process improvements to enhance customer’s project cycle time.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to present information in a professional manner and persuade without authority.
  • Experience developing ad hoc reporting from multiple hubs with minimal assistance.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment in analyzing and identifying solutions to complex issues that arise.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet plans and goals.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite including Excel and Microsoft Word.
