About the role

  • Maintenance Engineer ensuring reliability and efficiency at BASF's Polyol Plant in Wyandotte, MI. Collaborating across departments to enhance plant maintenance and operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Optimizing maintenance work; assuring efficient and productive operation of plants, processes, and equipment; while protecting and prolonging the economic life of plant assets; all at the lowest sustainable cost.
  • Developing equipment repair procedures and specifications necessary to improve plant and equipment reliability.
  • Coordinating internal and 3rd party resources to scope and execute repairs, rebuilds, overhauls, and equipment upgrades.
  • Participating in reliability related incident investigations; prioritizing action items and following up on their implementation.
  • Providing technical expertise, support and training to the maintenance technicians in proper repairs, installation, alignment, lubrication and best practices.
  • Supporting site programs for Asset Integrity, such as for Pressure Vessels, Tanks, Heat Exchangers, Piping Inspections, Relief Devices and Flame Arrestors.
  • Supporting capital projects by supplying engineering expertise in the specification, design, and construction of capital projects in accordance with plant design requirements, as well as regulatory and BASF standards, utilizing your general understanding of industrial maintenance procedures, including work planning, preventive maintenance, and repair parts acquisition.
  • Ensuring that all maintenance activities are compliant with the company Responsible Care Management System, Process Safety Management system, and all statutory regulations, and that relevant asset management systems, procedures, and standards are followed to always maintain compliance.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Possess work experience in maintenance, reliability, or production engineer role in an industrial plant environment.
  • Bring excellent hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Have understanding of maintenance and reliability work processes for pumps, agitators, piping systems, pressure vessels (including heat exchangers), storage tanks, and relief devices.
  • Have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bring knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in industrial maintenance.
  • Possess computer skills to include CMMS software (SAP preferred) and Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Are familiar with process control systems and automation.
  • Have experience with formal reliability programs such as TPM, RCM, RCFA (preferred)
  • Preferrably hold certifications related to maintenance or reliability engineering.
