About the role

  • Finance Assistant ensuring finance processes run smoothly and efficiently at a health research charity. Supporting day-to-day operations across accounts payable, payroll, and general finance administration.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day finance operations across accounts payable, financial planning and analysis, payroll support and general finance administration.
  • Processing staff expenses and liaising with claimants to resolve queries, incorrect data or missing receipts.
  • Managing the expenses inbox and responding to queries in line with the Expenses Policy.
  • Supporting supplier onboarding, including obtaining written and verbal confirmation of bank details.
  • Providing invoice processing cover when required.
  • Running transaction reports and assisting with expenditure queries from budget holders.
  • Supporting Finance Business Partners with management reporting, group accounts and forecast consolidation.
  • Uploading budgets and forecasts into the finance system.
  • Updating the master payroll document with starter information and pay changes, working closely with the People & Culture team to ensure payroll data is accurate and complete.
  • Preparing and organising documentation for audits, as directed by senior finance colleagues.
  • Liaising with the Governance team to coordinate document sign-off and submissions.
  • Setting up new finance system codes and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Providing wider administrative and operational support to the Finance team as required.

Requirements

  • Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience in a finance or accounts support role and be confident working with data and financial systems.
  • Proficiency in Excel, with confidence working with financial data and reports.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to respond clearly and professionally to internal and external queries.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience managing workload independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence using finance software (desirable).
  • Experience working in a start-up or growing organisation (desirable).
