About the role

  • Part-Time Hydrodynamic Engineer developing and testing software models for specialized ship systems. Supporting remote work while collaborating with a team in fluid dynamics and computational physics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide computer science and engineering support to design, develop, and test specialized ship, ship systems, and weapon systems computer software models and analyses.
  • Provide software development and testing support for applications, utilities, toolkits, and software related to the DoD HPCMP CREATE-SH MAKO (Marine-Aligned Kestrel Offshoot) software application.
  • This will include computational mesh generation and solution support related to unit tests, system tests and cases include in the automated test suite.
  • Provide General Project Management support, to include the following deliverables: Contracting Officer Management Report/Task Order Status Report, List of Deliverables, In-Progress Reviews, and Electronic Document Library (eDL) development and access.
  • Software development support related to the DoD HPMCP CREATE-Ships MAKO (Marine-Aligned Kestrel Offshoot) software application.
  • Weekly activities will be provided by direction from the MAKO software development lead.

Requirements

  • A DoD SECRET security clearance is required.
  • Experience developing complex computer code in FORTRAN, C and C++ software languages
  • Familiarity with agile software development practices
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop, test, and validate new software routines that expand the existing code capability
  • Experience with High Performance Computing systems and parallel computing architectures
  • A strong background in fluid dynamics modeling, computational physics, and turbulent flow dynamics.
  • An advanced degree in a related engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, or naval architecture), or extensive experience supporting related work
  • Experience with numerical predictions of hydrodynamics problems including but not limited to ships, submarines, and propellers
  • Experience using the CREATE-FT Capstone and/or Cadence Pointwise mesh software is a plus
