About the role

  • VP of Engineering leading the engineering team at a B2B software scale-up in Germany. Focusing on scaling the organization, architectural improvement, and predictable delivery systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and scale a high-performing engineering organization (Engineering Managers, tech leads, and individual contributors); hire and develop leaders, define expectations and growth paths, and maintain a high talent bar and a culture of ownership.
  • Build and operate a lightweight, high-trust delivery system (planning, forecasting, dependency management, transparent reporting) that enables predictable roadmap execution while balancing speed, quality, and architectural runway.
  • Own technical strategy and architectural direction for a scalable B2B SaaS platform; evolve cloud architecture, APIs/integrations, and data-intensive workflows while establishing “paved roads” for product teams.
  • Raise the bar on engineering excellence (release confidence, observability, incident response, operational discipline) and strengthen DevOps/SRE practices.
  • Ensure an enterprise-grade security posture in partnership with Security and Compliance (secure SDLC, vulnerability management, auditability) and serve as the executive technical voice for select enterprise customers (late-stage deals, escalations, roadmap credibility).
  • Drive pragmatic AI adoption to enhance engineering productivity and product capabilities (AI-assisted SDLC, automation, quality acceleration) with clear security, IP, and data guardrails.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of scaling engineering organizations in high-growth B2B enterprise SaaS, including managing managers (Directors/Engineering Managers) and leading teams through significant growth.
  • Experience operating in enterprise SaaS environments where reliability, security, integrations, and customer trust are critical.
  • Exposure to industrial/manufacturing software, data-heavy products, pricing, or aftermarket/parts-related domains.
  • Strong technical foundation (CS degree or equivalent) with the ability to go deep on architecture, platform decisions, and operational trade-offs.
  • Demonstrated experience modernizing or scaling multi-team architectures while maintaining delivery pace and building predictable, low-chaos engineering systems with transparent risk communication.
  • Working knowledge of modern AI approaches with practical, outcome-driven application experience.
  • Germany-based preferred, or Europe-based with strong distributed leadership experience.
