About the role
- Criminal Lawyer managing complex criminal cases at a full-service law firm in Brazil. Requires postgraduate education in Criminal Law and advanced English proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Work across all areas of the firm's criminal practice, including high-volume and high-complexity strategic cases.
- Manage deadlines, update case management systems, file pleadings electronically and organize physical and digital case files.
- Monitor court publications daily, prepare summaries of notices and conduct case law research.
- Follow police investigations, request investigative steps and ensure the chain of custody of evidence.
- Draft pleadings and appeals, assist in preparing briefs and oral arguments when necessary.
- Participate in custody hearings, conciliation/settlement hearings, plea negotiations, evidentiary hearings, trial sessions and jury trials.
- Negotiate non-prosecution agreements and collaborate on risk analysis and consolidation of precedents.
- Experience with strategic cases (economic crimes, money laundering, criminal organizations, jury trials, oral arguments) and experience negotiating cooperation agreements or Non-Prosecution Agreements (ANPP) will be an advantage.
Requirements
- Postgraduate degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure.
- Experience in criminal practice, including participation in hearings and drafting procedural documents.
- Advanced or fluent English.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Knowledge of substantive and procedural criminal legislation (Criminal Procedure Code - CPP, Penal Code - CP, and special legislation).
- Experience with electronic filing platforms (PJe, e-SAJ or equivalents).
- Skills: organization, deadline management, excellent legal writing, attention to detail, analytical thinking, proactivity, teamwork and receptiveness to continuous feedback.
