Automotive Mechanic maintaining and repairing vehicles under the Illinois Department of Transportation supervision. Conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with safety rules.
Responsibilities
Performs mechanical repairs on vehicles assigned to field headquarters and also conducts repairs at the site of a disabled vehicle.
Performs regular inspection and maintenance of vehicles on an established schedule.
Maintains accurate and timely records of all maintenance repairs performed.
Performs minor welding and fabrication.
Performs all other duties as assigned which are reasonably related to the duties enumerated above.
Requirements
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school, or coursework in vehicle repair and maintenance, or completion of an approved training course.
Requires experience necessary to qualify as a skilled mechanic.
Prefers experience and extensive knowledge in the use of mechanical hand tools, machinery, and testing equipment used in equipment and motor repair, including the ability to diagnose, adjust, and correct mechanical issues.
Prefers knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety measures.
Prefers skill and ability to work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints as well as oral and written instructions.
Prefers ability to weld and perform simple blacksmith operations.
Prefers ability to work well with others.
Prefers ability to prepare work activity reports.
Prefers ability to perceive objects with sharpness.
