Senior VAT Accountant responsible for client accounting functions at a boutique Maltese accounting firm. Ensuring compliance and delivering timely financial information in a hybrid role.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily bookkeeping and maintain accurate client accounting records, ensuring adherence to established procedures
Prepare periodic management reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually) and annual management accounts in line with accounting standards and company policies
Manage VAT registrations and ensure full compliance with Maltese and EU VAT legislation, including reporting obligations
Provide expert guidance on VAT matters, including cross-border transactions, partial exemptions, and complex compliance issues
Assist clients in obtaining an EXO number, preparing and submitting all required documentation, and acting as the main point of contact throughout the process
Liaise with clients to gather financial information, understand their business operations, and address queries related to compliance and reporting
Collaborate with auditors to meet all statutory and regulatory requirements
Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards, VAT legislation, and financial regulations, applying this knowledge proactively
Support internal teams with complex VAT queries and ad hoc financial tasks, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar accounting or finance role
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, VAT legislation, and financial reporting standards
Experience in preparing management accounts and coordinating audits
Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines efficiently
Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and client relationship skills
Proactive, organised, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team
