About the role

  • Grants Accountant managing invoices and expense payments for IRCO, a non-profit organization. Responsible for maintaining records and ensuring financial accountability with detailed reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare invoices and reports as directed by funder requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards
  • Reconcile balances for accounts receivable, aging and collection reports
  • Respond to funder requests for supporting documents
  • Maintain communication with program managers regarding outstanding receivables
  • Monitor accounts receivables variances in collaboration with budget analysts and program management
  • Prepare payments for a certain category of expenses
  • Other tasks within the accounting team as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business or similar combination of education and experience
  • Two years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must be proficient in the English language
  • Oral and written communication skills commensurate with the needs of the position
  • Experience/proficient in Management Information Package (MIP), Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and a variety of software packages
  • Respectful cross-context service; demonstrated skill in understanding variation in community norms
  • Successful experience in accounting, with integrated computerized accounting systems
  • Experience and knowledge of State and Federal regulations and related laws
  • Experience in Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables (preferred)
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems and capability to assemble, review, and maintain accounting, budget, or financial transactions (preferred)
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the use of financial software (MIP preferred), Excel and related software applications (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills in a multilingual, multi-background organization (preferred)
  • Strong ability to work with multi-background staff in a team setting (preferred)
  • Ability to use initiative and judgment with competing tasks and responsibilities (preferred)
  • Ability to function in a positive manner in a demanding work environment, to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, to respond to priorities and schedules that change frequently, and to meet commitments (preferred)
