About the role

  • Director of Public Relations and Government Affairs shaping strategy for Canada's growth in a clean economy. Leading government relations, stakeholder engagement and strategic communications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support execution of CGF’s integrated national communications and government affairs strategy , ensuring alignment with investment CGF’s mandate and strategic priorities
  • Oversee external communications , including investment announcements, media relations, and strategic messaging for key audiences such as investors, policymakers, and industry leaders
  • Lead the creation of high-impact communications materials , including briefing notes, speeches, presentations, and Q&As for leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Advise CGFIM and PSP senior leadership on government engagement , providing strategic counsel on navigating federal, provincial, and territorial public policy landscapes
  • Monitor and analyze policy developments related to decarbonization, energy transition, and sustainable finance at the international, federal, and provincial levels
  • Oversee select government-facing activities , including parliamentary and senate committee appearances, and provincial and territorial outreach
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials and key stakeholders to advance CGF’s strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Legal, Risk, Investments) and PSP’s Strategic Communications and Global Government Affairs group to ensure alignment and manage reputational risk for CGF and PSP
  • Represent CGF at industry events, forums, and policy discussions , reinforcing CGF and PSP’s leadership role in Canada’s investment ecosystem

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Political Science, Public Policy, or a sustainability-related discipline (Master’s or MBA with a sustainability focus is an asset)
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or strategic communications within financial services, investment management, or public sector organizations
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills , with experience drafting briefing notes, press releases, and ability to write and edit comprehensive documents including investment recommendations and Q&As
  • Deep understanding of Canadian public administration , federal and provincial policy processes, government operations, and/or Crown corporations
  • Knowledge of ESG and sustainable investment practices , with proven ability to translate complex policy and investment concepts into clear, compelling narratives
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills , capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with senior government officials, industry leaders, and external stakeholders
  • Proactive, results-oriented mindset , with a strong work ethic and ability to thrive in small team dynamics
  • Bilingualism : English and French (frequent interactions in English with PSP employees based in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)
