About the role

  • Senior Corporate Legal Counsel providing legal and regulatory advice on compliance and privacy-related matters. Collaborating with various stakeholders on governance, technology, and ethics intersections.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely legal and regulatory advice and guidance on compliance and privacy-related matters and projects.
  • Be a strategic advisor in the intersection of law, ethics, governance, AI and technology.
  • Collaborate closely with various stakeholders including IT, the Intact Lab, and the Data Governance Office.
  • Support in all areas of our compliance framework with focus on privacy, including: Support on regulatory matters including regulatory engagement and reporting Support on internal compliance and privacy reporting and committees Lead and oversee compliance and privacy training and awareness Conduct privacy impact assessments and data transfer requests Play an active role in supporting stakeholders in the investigation, management, and resolution of compliance and privacy incidents and breaches Support in compliance policy management and governance Continuously improving Intact’s compliance and privacy-related processes to ensure they remain ‘best-in-class’. Identifying potential compliance and privacy risks while implementing proactive plans to mitigate or minimize such risk. Collaborating with world class legal colleagues in order to solve novel problems and execute on Intact's customer-focused vision. Promote a culture of compliance and ensure the integrity and values of the organization are always respected.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years of relevant post-call legal experience in a large law firm or in-house environment.
  • Deep experience in privacy law, with focus on technology, cybersecurity, and data governance aspects of data privacy.
  • Excellent communication, writing, drafting, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and build strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Can educate and influence decision makers (with an emphasis on simplifying problems and reducing complexity for decision).
  • Sound judgment and the ability to assess the practical implications of legal and regulatory risks.
  • Ability to proactively identify legal and reputational risks and propose innovation business solutions.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and successfully manage several files and projects at once.
  • Comfort with technology tools, including good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with the use of Gen AI tools would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry (financial services or similar) would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in French and experience with Quebec law would be an asset but is not required.
