Senior Structural Engineer at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding leading ship alteration development and maintenance. Supporting operational readiness of CVN68 Class nuclear carriers through engineering and project oversight.
Responsibilities
Lead various efforts in the arena of Ship Alteration development
Develop structural foundation design and maintenance of nuclear cognizant structure
Provide oversight and direction for less experienced engineers
Support CVN68 Class operational readiness through adjudication of LARs and other special studies
Analyze and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
9 years of relevant exempt experience; or
Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; or
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
Comprehensive knowledge regarding the development of both nuclear and non-nuclear structural ship alteration products
Direct experience in CVN68 Class ships preferred
Experience in structural foundation drawings and fabrication and welding of ship's structure
Familiarity with non-destructive test requirements for structural welds
Extensive experience working with nuclear lifting and handling requirements
Knowledge of protective coatings, corrosion prevention mechanisms, and nuclear shielding preferred
