About the role

  • Solicitor handling contract negotiations and legal consulting for the City of Hamilton. Responsible for a variety of agreements and legal matters in Corporate Services.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for negotiating and drafting a variety of contracts and agreements including commercial and or real estate agreements.
  • Provide specialized legal services and consultation on housing related matters.
  • Develop and implement proactive strategies to protect the interests of the City.
  • Provide research, analysis, counselling, and advice on legal implications of matters of law.
  • Review and prepare documents, policy and procedure for the City that comply with applicable laws.
  • Provide legal opinions and advice on significant risk matters to assist decision-makers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws degree or Juris Doctor (JD) from a recognized University.
  • Membership in good standing in the Law Society of Ontario.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience negotiating and drafting a variety of contracts and agreements including commercial and or real estate agreements.
  • Experience with construction or infrastructure related agreements an asset.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity as well as excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and to prioritize.
  • Highly developed analytical and business planning skills.
  • Must have computer skills in a Windows environment utilizing MS Office software.
